Install and configure the BMAD Method in Codex: @pm and @architect agents to create software using a professional product methodology.

BMAD Method is an npm framework that installs specialized agents in Codex CLI. Instead of writing prompts from scratch, you call @pm, @architect and other agents preconfigured for each stage of software development.
With BMAD, Codex stops being a coding assistant and becomes a team: product manager, architect, developer, QA. Each agent knows exactly what to ask and what to deliver β without you having to build the prompt from scratch every time.
| Agent | Function | Deliverable |
|---|---|---|
| @pm | Product Manager | PRD, user stories, roadmap |
| @architect | Software architect | Diagram, stack, API design |
| @dev | Developer | Code, tests, refactor |
| @qa | Quality Assurance | Test cases, bugs, coverage |
Installing the BMAD Method in your project takes less than 5 minutes. It takes 4 commands: initialize package.json, install the package, run the full setup, and integrate it with Codex.
version 18 or later
comes with Node.js
installed and logged in
# 1. Entre no seu projeto cd meu-projeto # 2. Inicialize o package.json (se nΓ£o existir) npm init -y # 3. Instale o BMAD como dependΓͺncia de dev npm install bmad-method --save-dev # 4. Rode o setup completo npx bmad-method install --full
What --full does: creates the directories .agents/, docs/, copies PRD templates, installs agent definitions, and configures the base SKILL.md.
To use BMAD with the Codex CLI (terminal), integrate it using the flag -i codex. This makes the setup recognize and load the BMAD agents into the Codex context.
npx bmad-method install --full -i codex
npx bmad-method status
Returns: installed version, active agents, whether Codex integration is working.
codex "As dev, implement user login module"
Codex reads the SKILL.md created by BMAD and loads the agentsβ context. βAs devβ activates the developer role β the agent responds with the right style and deliverables for that role.
In addition to Codex CLI, you can use BMAD in the Codex Web (ChatGPT browser interface with Codex enabled). The integration uses the flag -i codex-web and generates files optimized for uploading to ChatGPT.
| Feature | CLI (-i codex) | Web (-i codex-web) |
|---|---|---|
| Code execution | β directly in the terminal | ChatGPT sandbox |
| File upload | reads from the filesystem | β drag-and-drop |
| Requirement | OpenAI API key | ChatGPT Plus |
| Best for | complete project | rapid prototyping |
npx bmad-method install --full -i codex-web
This creates a file bmad-context.md optimized for pasting into ChatGPT Custom Instructions or System Prompt.
BMAD agents are activated with a prefix @nome. Each takes on a complete professional role: @pm creates product documents, @architect defines the technical structure, @dev implements.
@pm Create PRD for a task management app with user auth
Deliverable: PRD document with objective, personas, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
@architect Design API structure for the task management PRD
Deliverable: tech stack, component diagram, REST endpoints, data schema.
As dev, implement user login module As qa, write tests for the login module
A complete BMAD project goes through these stages: PRD β Architecture β Implementation β Tests β Verification. Each stage is handled by a specialized agent, with automatic context handoff.
Defines objectives, personas, features, acceptance criteria
Stack, API, database, infrastructure
Codex reads the PRD + architecture and generates the code
Test cases based on the PRD acceptance criteria
npx bmad-method update for new agent versions
npx bmad-method update
Keeps agents up to date without losing your local customizations.
