Measurement and Routine: the number that matters is the non-branded one

At the start, almost every click comes from people who already search for your name. In eight lessons, you separate the brand, read URL Inspection, decide when to change a title, turn queries into a topic list, test another language, set up the conversion goal, and build the routine with a Plan B. With INEMA's real numbers, including the zero.

The lessons

In the order of the work: get the baseline, measure every week, check the index, read what the number asks for, and keep the routine going.

  1. Lesson 1 · 15 minBaseline: why almost every click is brandedThe total clicks in Search Console are misleading. At the start, almost every click comes from people who already typed your name. That click is good, but it doesn't show whether your SEO works. In this lesson you pull a 28-day baseline and separate the brand from the rest, as INEMA did in September 2026.
  2. Lesson 2 · 18 minWeekly export that separates the brand from anonymized queriesThe baseline is a photo. To see the movie, you need the same photo every week, in the same format. The gsc_semanal.py script does that: it separates branded, non-branded, and anonymized, and writes one row per week. Without Google credentials, the same spreadsheet by hand works.
  3. Lesson 3 · 17 minURL Inspection: indexed, discovered, unknownBefore you measure clicks, confirm the page is in the index. The Search Console URL Inspection tells you, page by page, whether Google knows it, crawled it, indexed it, and which address it chose as the official one. Each state calls for a different action. In this lesson you build the list of your key URLs and read the state of each one.
  4. Lesson 4 · 16 minImpression without a click: rewrite the title and descriptionA page with lots of impressions and few clicks seems to need a new title. Sometimes it does; sometimes the impressions come from people who searched for your brand and clicked the homepage, and the title is not to blame. In this lesson you look at where the impressions come from before changing anything, rewrite only what's worth it, and measure for two weeks.
  5. Lesson 5 · 17 minQuery with impressions and no page: validated topicA paid tool estimates what people search for. Your Search Console shows what they already searched for and where you appeared. A non-branded query with impressions and no page made for it is a validated topic, for free. In this lesson you sort topics, pages to improve and noise, and you write the brief with a real asset.
  6. Lesson 6 · 17 minMultilingual as a lever: the Spanish caseIn Spanish, the competition is usually smaller and the demand is big. On INEMA, the page about learning AI in Spanish was indexed on 10/03/2026, and the following week it was already showing up in queries that the Portuguese version didn't reach. In this lesson, you use data to decide whether a page deserves another language, and how to do it without falling into mass translation.
  7. Lesson 7 · 18 minConversion goal and AI-sourced traffic in GA4Search Console shows who arrived from search. It doesn't say what the person did afterward, or who came from an AI assistant. That's what analytics is for: a conversion goal with the source page and a channel of its own for visits coming from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and the like. Some of them land in "Direct"; the lesson shows why.
  8. Lesson 8 · 20 minWeekly and monthly cadence and the Plan B for days 30 to 60SEO pays off in weeks and months, not days. What makes the result is the routine: one look per week, one battery of checks per month and, between days 30 and 60, an answer for each symptom instead of giving up. And one precaution almost nobody takes: Search Console keeps only about 16 months. If you don't archive, you lose your own history.

Who it's for

  1. 1Website owners with pages already live and Search Console verified.
  2. 2People who look at the total clicks and can't tell whether SEO is working or whether it's just people who already knew you.
  3. 3People who want a short weekly and monthly routine, instead of checking the dashboard whenever anxiety hits.

What you walk away doing

  1. 1Separate branded, non-branded and anonymized clicks and impressions every week, in a file of your own.
  2. 2Read URL Inspection and know the right action for each status.
  3. 3Decide with data when to rewrite a title, when to write a new page, and when to translate.
  4. 4Measure conversion by source page and keep the routine going with a Plan B for days 30 to 60.
