Lesson 7 · 20 min
The course organizes the threats in §6.3 of the WebMCP spec into seven categories (the three vectors in §6.3.1 and sections 6.3.2 to 6.3.5), and the spec admits there is no way to verify that the tool does what it says. In this lesson you run the catalog through a linter that finds the obvious and fill in the threat card that covers the rest.
Start the lesson
Goal: model each tool's threats across the spec's 7 categories and run the catalog through a linter that finds poisoning, excess parameters, and hidden effects.
One card per tool. Click each step.
The spec says there is no mechanism to verify that the tool does what the description promises (§6.3.2.4). The card is how you record that you checked.
Instruction hidden in the name, the description, or a parameter's description.
Instruction in what the tool returns (lesson 2).
A high-value action with an agent path that differs from the button path.
A name and description that hide the effect (finalizeCart, lesson 3).
Asking for age, pregnancy, location, or skin tone in a dress search: the helpful agent fills them in, and the site builds a profile.
State carried from one origin to another. In the October 16, 2026 spec, the section is still just a pending note; the control is lesson 4.
An agent carrying data from private browsing into the normal profile. The spec puts the responsibility on the browser.
catalogos/ruim.mjs has four tools adapted from the spec's own attack examples. The linter only reads the text: it doesn't run anything.
cd ~/projetos/formacao-webmcp-seguranca-v72/kit node scripts/ameacas.mjs catalogos/ruim.mjs; echo "saída: $?"
// ruim.mjs — four tools adapted from the attack examples in the WebMCP spec (draft of October 16, 2026, §6.3).
// Definitions only (no execute): the linter reads the text, it doesn't run anything. DO NOT copy this to your site.

Zero findings doesn't mean safe: it means the obvious was removed. The rest goes in the threat card.
Copy the template for each tool that changes something. The kit's file is in Portuguese; ficha.mjs checks that all 7 categories have a control and a test filled in, and it accepts the labels in PT, EN, and ES.

The linter and the card on your catalog.
Run the ruim block and link each finding to its category.

Export your tools' definitions in a module (a list in export default, like bom.mjs) and run node scripts/ameacas.mjs [your catalog]. Fix until it hits zero.
Done when: 0 achados and saída: 0.
Copy modelos/ficha-ameacas.md to the tool on your site that changes the most, and fill in the 7 categories.
Done when: node scripts/ficha.mjs [your threat card] → ficha: 7/7 categorias com controle e teste.
Question 1 of 4
A dress search asks for age, pregnancy, and skin tone. What category is this?skill
Question 2 of 4
The linter found 0 findings in your catalog. What does that guarantee?
Question 3 of 4
Why does search-web in ruim.mjs get a poisoned-description finding?
Question 4 of 4
The origin boundary section (§6.3.4) of the spec has no text yet. What goes in the threat card?
