Pillar page and question pages with a direct answer

A pillar page is the long page that covers a central topic of your business. Around it, question pages each answer one question, starting with the answer. It's not an AI trick: it's respect for people who arrived with a question. And the questions section at the end stays useful to the reader, even without the showcase Google removed in 2026.

Start the lesson
A bright library with a large open reference book and question cards pinned to a corkboard around it.

In this lesson you will

  1. 1The difference between a pillar page and a question page
  2. 2The skeleton of a question page
  3. 3FAQ in 2026: useful to the reader, no showcase
  4. 4The swap test against generic text

Goal: write a question page with a direct answer at the top, sections shaped as questions, and a visible FAQ, without promising a rich result.

01A pillar page in the center, questions around it

Tap each block.

Click each block in the diagram to see what it does.

Answer first, first-hand data in the middle, real questions at the end.

02Writing the question page

Tap each step.

1. Answer

Write the answer the way you'd tell a customer at the counter. Then cut whatever doesn't answer.

A short answer is clarity for the reader. No source shows an exact length as a factor for AI.

03The skeleton, the request to the agent, and the swap test

The agent from your subscription writes the draft by reading your real material; you review it.

Question page skeleton
Title (≤ 60 characters): <question with the main keyword>
Description (110–160): <the answer in one sentence + what only you show>

<h1>Reader's question</h1>
<p>Direct answer in 2 to 4 sentences.</p>

<h2>How I know this: <your test/case></h2>
<p>First-hand data with a link to the evidence.</p>

<h2><reader's next question></h2>
<h2><what usually goes wrong?></h2>

<h2>Frequently asked questions</h2> (only if there are ≥ 3 real questions)

Also read: <pillar page> · <sister 1> · <sister 2>
Updated on <real date>
Draft request (agent)
Write the draft of a page that answers: "<question>".
ONLY source of facts: the files <paths to your real material>.
Rules:
- start with the answer in 2 to 4 sentences, no "in this article";
- a "How I know this" section with the first-hand data and the evidence link;
- section headings in question form;
- no number, name, or date that is not in the source; if something is missing, write [FALTA DADO];
- FAQ only with these real questions: <list>; without them, no FAQ.
At the end, list each number used and where it is in the source.
Swap test (CHECKLIST item 10)
For each paragraph:
1. swap the keyword for another of the same kind ("bread" → "cake", "law firm" → "accounting firm");
2. is the paragraph still true?
   yes → it's generic: rewrite it with your data;
   no → it's yours: it stays.
Example from the repository

The FAQ rich result stopped appearing on Google on 05/07/2026, and its documentation was removed on 06/12/2026. Anyone selling FAQPage as a showcase is selling the past.

Visible questions are still useful to readers. The markup, if you keep it, has to match the text on the page.

04Practice: your first question page

Use a GO group from lesson 3.

E1 · Draft in the skeleton

60 min

Write (or ask the agent and review) a question page using the skeleton, with your first-hand data and the evidence link.

Done when: the answer is 2 to 4 sentences at the top, there is a section with your data and link, and no [FALTA DADO] was left unresolved.

E2 · Swap test

20 min

Apply the swap test to every paragraph and rewrite the generic ones.

Done when: you marked each paragraph as "yours" or "rewritten", and none stays true with the word swapped.

05Test what you learned

The explanation shows up after your answer.

Question 1 of 4

Why does the question page start with the answer?skill

06Takeaways

Pillar page + questionsOne long pillar page per core topic; one page per question around it.
Answer, proof, questionsAnswer at the top, first-hand data with a link, sections phrased as questions.
Swap testIf the paragraph fits any site, rewrite it.
2026 yardstickA short answer is clarity, not an AI technique. The FAQ rich result ended on 05/07/2026; a visible FAQ is still useful to the reader.
