Agents: hire, delegate and supervise

Creating an agent got easy. Answering for what it does did not. In eight lessons you write an agent's digital role, delegation, constitution and authority limits. You decide when it earns more autonomy, when it becomes a team, and how to handle exceptions. You finish with the hiring dossier, approved by a rubric.

A sales manager at a distributor points to an approval queue dashboard while the team works; in the background, the cleaning products stock.
  • 8lessons of 15 to 20 minutes
  • 18exercises with "done when"
  • 13templates to copy
  • 1simulated exception queue

The lessons

In the order a manager receives an agent: hire (role and delegation), guide (constitution), limit (authority), loosen your grip with evidence, build the team and supervise. Lesson 8 pulls it all together in the dossier.

  1. Lesson 1 · 18 minThe digital roleNobody hires a person without saying what the role is. With agents this happens every week: someone turns the agent on, writes "be friendly and sell a lot" and walks away. In this lesson you write the job sheet for an agent the way you would write one for a new employee, with one extra detail: everything in it has to be checkable.
  2. Lesson 2 · 18 minReally delegate"Take care of the WhatsApp orders" is not delegation: it is hoping it works out. Someone who really delegates hands over the goal, the size of the responsibility, the context, the tools, the deadline and the way to prove it is finished. It is what you would do with a new person on the team, and the agent deserves the same clarity.
  3. Lesson 3 · 18 minThe agent constitutionThe job sheet says what the agent does. But day-to-day work brings what no one predicted: the customer who pastes a "system note" into the request, the rush that collides with the rule. For these moments the agent needs judgment, not more rules. The constitution is that page: priorities in order, limits, and the reason behind each hard decision.
  4. Lesson 4 · 20 minAuthority limits: green, yellow, redEvery company has authority limits for people: how much discount a salesperson can give, the amount from which a manager signs. At Horizonte, Hora got unlimited authority: any discount, any amount, no record. In this lesson you decide, action by action, what the agent does on its own, what it prepares for you to approve, and what it passes along without touching.
  5. Lesson 5 · 18 minProgressive trustAfter the hotel request, Patrícia put Hora back on yellow: everything goes through her. Great for security, terrible for her calendar. The question now is when to loosen your grip. The answer is not courage or fatigue: it is evidence, one action at a time, with the way back written down before you move up.
  6. Lesson 6 · 20 minOne agent or a teamCarlos liked Hora and already wants another agent, for collections. Maybe a third one to check the first two. Sometimes that's right; sometimes it's just a bigger problem with more places to go wrong. In this lesson you decide when the work calls for more than one agent, how they hand work to each other, and where the team stops.
  7. Lesson 7 · 20 minSupervision and exceptionsWith the matrix in place, Hora handles the routine on her own and sends Patrícia whatever is not routine. That creates a new job that no manager's job description had: the exception queue. In this lesson you work that queue in a simulation and leave with the daily and weekly routine of someone who supervises agents.
  8. Lesson 8 · 20 minProject: the hired agent + What changedA new person only starts after a signed contract, a described role and a defined boss. Agents too. The project for this course is the hiring dossier: the pieces from lessons 1 to 7, put together, run through a rubric and signed by someone who didn't write them. At the end, what changed in the market, with date and source.

Who it's for

  1. 1Area managers, owners of small and midsize businesses, and operations or HR leaders who already have AI agents on their team, or soon will.
  2. 2People who don't code and don't want to: here you manage the agent. Building an agent is a different course.
  3. 3People who have to answer for what the agent does: the discount it gave, the order it approved, the customer it served.

What you'll be able to do

  1. 1Write an agent's job sheet with a mission, a verifiable deliverable, prohibited actions and a human owner.
  2. 2Delegate a task with a goal, context, tools, deadline and proof of completion.
  3. 3Set authority limits action by action (green, yellow, red) and promote or demote with evidence.
  4. 4Run the exception queue: approve, send back or stop, always with a reason.

The case that runs through the course

  1. 1Horizonte Distribuidora, a fictional study company of 40 people that distributes cleaning products in the interior of São Paulo.
  2. 2You play Patrícia Lima, sales manager, who just received Hora, an agent that sells over WhatsApp. The process is the order that arrives on WhatsApp and runs through to invoicing.
  3. 3The flaws planted in the lab (a discount with no cap, a hidden instruction, a large order with no approval) become management problems. Every lesson has one practice on Horizonte and another on your own process.
