Lesson 3 · 17 min

The 9 management objects

The 2027 manager does not manage only people. Agents, models, processes, tools, permissions, context, knowledge and compute budget all pass across their desk. Most of these objects already exist in your company and have no owner. In this lesson you build the map of the nine, with a name next to each one, and find out which course in the program looks after which.

Start the lesson
A manager points to a whiteboard with colored sticky notes in a three-by-three grid, with nothing written on them; two colleagues watch from their seats.

In this lesson you will

  1. 1The nine management objects, grouped into four axes and two cross-cutting themes
  2. 2The difference between who answers for the object and who keeps it running
  3. 3The invisible objects: context, knowledge, permissions and budget
  4. 4Which course in the program takes care of each object

Goal: list the 9 management objects that pass across the 2027 manager's desk and give each one an owner with a name in your area.

01Nine objects, four axes and two cross-cutting themes

Each block is an axis; inside it are the objects it brings together and the course in the program that takes care of them. Tap to see the details.

Click each block in the diagram to see what it does.

The nine objects come from the AI Management area of INEMA (section "The 2027 Manager"); the grouping into axes is the one from the AI Management Program 2027.

02From object to owner

Four ideas for building the map without falling into the most common traps. Horizonte is the fictional study company.

1. Nine things on the desk

The list of what crosses the manager's desk has grown: people, agents, models, processes, tools, permissions, context, knowledge and compute budget. You don't need to master each one technically. You need to know who answers for it.

An object with no owner doesn't sit still: someone decides for it without realizing it, almost always whoever has access to the system.

At HorizonteNobody chose the model that powers Hora: Rafael used what came with the tool. When the price or the behavior changes, nobody will know they need to decide.

03Template to copy: the map of the 9 objects

One page per area. Fill in what exists, today's owner and the right owner. Where there is no owner, write "no owner": it's the most useful information on the map.

Prompt · find gaps in the map
You are an experienced manager reviewing the map of the 9 management objects of an
area that has started using AI agents. Don't fill anything in: point out gaps.

Map:
"""<paste here>"""

Answer, in this order:
1. On which lines is the "right owner" IT when it should be the business?
2. Is any owner "the team," "everyone" or a role with no name?
3. Of the invisible objects (context, knowledge, permissions, budget),
which looks filled in without anyone really having looked?
4. What question would I ask each owner to find out whether they know they are the owner?
Simulation: illustrative example

Sales · Horizonte Distribuidora · fictional study company

Agents (Hora)RafaelPatrícia; Rafael maintains
Modelsno ownerPatrícia approves the change; Rafael tests
Processes (orders)no ownerPatrícia

PermissionsRafaelCarlos approves; Rafael executes
Context (summary)no ownerJuliana; Carlos decides on customer data

No owner today: 4. Biggest risk: context, because customer data leaves the company every day.

04Practice

Horizonte's map is for practice; your area's map is for real.

1 · Horizonte's map

25 min

With the inventory and the two lab pieces open, fill in the map of the 9 objects for Horizonte's sales area without looking at the example. For each object, write today's owner (from the inventory) and the right owner. Then compare and note where you disagreed with the example and why.

Done when: all nine lines are filled in, at least three objects show up as "no owner" today, every right owner is a name, and there is one sentence saying what the biggest risk is and why.

2 · The map of your area

30 min

Make the map of your area. For the invisible objects (context, knowledge, permissions and budget), ask whoever maintains the systems before filling them in. Run the prompt and finish with the first decision: who takes which object, by when.

Done when: the map has nine lines with a name or an acknowledged "no owner" on each one, at least one conversation with whoever maintains the systems, and a first decision with a name and a date.

Lab materials: IT inventory, service summary and email assistant (fictional study company).

05Quick quiz

4 questions. The explanation appears after your attempt.
